Light- Words of Wisdom for 05/10/2022 “VICTORY”

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

-1 John 5:5

MY kids play to win. What I mean, of course, is that they become insufferable when they lose. Whether it is a board game or gymnastics competition, their reaction to a loss is evident to everyone within a 5-mile radius. The truth is, we all like to win. Even if we are mature enough to suppress our disappointment when we lose, there is something inside each of us that yearns for victory.

1 JOHN 5:5 reveals that the only strategy to guarantee victory in the areas of life that matter most is faith in Jesus. So many times, we fight to overcome the world with tools like wealth, popularity, intelligence, strength, and more. While these things are not necessarily bad, they are insufficient for the challenges we are sure to face in this life. Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33) and our dependence on him is what allows us to overcome it as well.

LIKE most competitions, this victory is not won just once and forgotten. Today’s victory will give rise to another, and another, and another. Our secret to success is daily, steadfast reliance on Jesus.

Heavenly Father, In the battles I am sure to face today, help me to engage them with an absolute faith in Jesus Christ. Amen.
