This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

-1 John 3:16

HAVING a father who served twenty two years in the Navy, a grandfather who was stationed in Pearl Harbor after the bombing and another grandfather, who was in one of Patton’s advance, hand-to-hand Army battalion, I have grown up with an appreciation and admiration for those who put their lives on the line for the sake of freedom. To all those who are serving and have served in our armed forces I say “thank you.”

THOUGH I did not serve in the military I did make this oath and commitment twenty eight years ago when I married my wife. In Ephesians 5, husbands are instructed to “love their wives as Christ loved the church.” Christ died for the church, thus, I must love my wife so much that I would be willing to lay down my life for the sake of my family.

JOHN 15:13 says “no greater love than this that a man lay down his life for a friend.” We have not only lost this attitude of love in our society but sadly in the church. Instead, we bicker, fuss, complain and put down our brothers and sisters in Christ. Christ is coming back again and He is coming for His bride, the church. It is for her He died and it is through her that the world will know of His love. May we be busy showing, sharing and sowing the love of Jesus, our Lord and Savior!

Jesus, forgive me for not loving my brothers and sisters as you have loved me, and empower me with Your strength and love to shine bright for You today. Amen
